INTERFAX - Against the background of the aggravation of the situation in Afghanistan, the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) will hold maneuvers in Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan this autumn with the participation of several thousand military personnel, a CSTO representative said.
"These are planned exercises. Several thousand servicemen are expected to participate, " CSTO spokesman Vladimir Zainetdinov told Interfax on Friday.
According to him, the exercises of the Collective Rapid Deployment Forces of the Central Asian Collective Security Region "Rubezh-2021"will be held in Kyrgyzstan on September 7-9. According to the plan of these maneuvers, it is planned to work out the destruction of illegal armed formations that have invaded the territory of the CSTO member state.
Zainetdinov said that in October, exercises will be held in Tajikistan near the border with Afghanistan with the intelligence forces of the armed forces of the CSTO states "Search-2021", logistics units "Echelon-2021" and Collective Rapid Reaction Forces-"Interaction - 2021".
In November, a special tactical exercise "Cobalt-2021" is planned in Tajikistan with special purpose units of the Collective Rapid Reaction Forces of the CSTO. Within the framework of this exercise, tasks will be worked out to curb the activities of illegal armed groups.
The CSTO includes Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia and Tajikistan, which chairs the organization in 2021. The CSTO has a collective rapid reaction force.
On August 17, against the background of the situation in Afghanistan, the Russian military in Tajikistan began maneuvers with the participation of about 1 thousand servicemen. The exercises will last a month, the press service of the Central Military District reported.
"About 1 thousand Russian servicemen of the 201st military base stationed in Tajikistan went to the Lyaur and Sambuli training grounds to improve their combat training skills, "the press service of the district reported.
"Gunners, military engineers, specialists of air defense, electronic warfare (EW), radiation, chemical and biological protection (RCBZ) will work out tasks for their combat purpose within a month," the district said.
During the exercises in the mountains of Tajikistan, the Russian military used helicopters, tanks and infantry fighting vehicles, the Central Military District reported.
