Volta Trucks
After an all-electric van designed for intercity transportation was introduced last year, Volta Trucks has started testing a 16-ton platform truck. Now the prototype is undergoing sea trials in the UK.
Volta first announced its Volta Zero electric van in July last year in an effort to offer logistics companies a more environmentally friendly way of long-distance cargo transportation. The first prototype was shown in September. The company has introduced a fully electric vehicle with a maximum speed of 90 km / h and a power reserve of 200 km on a single charge. The prototype, which is being tested in Nuneaton (Great Britain), is called the Volta Minus One. The tests are carried out to evaluate the electromechanical and thermal characteristics of the prototype, including the parameters of the battery supplied by Proterra. In the production version, the car is planned to be equipped with a cargo body, but now the prototype has an open platform for carrying out load tests and determining the load capacity. The tests will last for several more months and will include stages both in winter conditions north of the Arctic Circle and in the hot climate in the south of Europe. According to the results of the tests, a trial batch of trucks will be produced, which will then be handed over to the main customers for trial operation, while mass production will begin at the end of 2020.
