The second contract for the supply of an additional batch of S-400 systems (S-400 SAM) to Turkey may be signed this year. This was announced on Wednesday, August 25, by the head of Rosoboronexport, Alexander Mikheev.
"In the near future-this means this year. We expect that the second S-400 contract for Turkey will be signed this year, " Mikheev told reporters.
On August 23, Mikheev stated that Russia and Turkey continue consultations on the supply of S-400 anti-aircraft missile systems (S-400 SAM), the parties are at the final stage of negotiations.
On August 5, the director of the Fourth European Department of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Yuri Pilipson, said that Moscow appreciates Turkey's position on the purchase of S-400,and also sees serious potential for developing cooperation with Ankara.
He added that Turkey is acting in accordance with the national tasks of ensuring its defense capability, despite open external pressure.
On July 21, it was reported that the United States would impose new sanctions against Turkey if the country continues to purchase weapons systems and military equipment from Russia.
The day before, Mikheev said that Moscow and Ankara had already agreed on a program of technological cooperation for the supply of S-400.
At the end of May, Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu said that Ankara considers unacceptable the demands of other countries not to use the purchased Russian systems.
Russia and Turkey signed the first contract for a regimental set of S-400 anti-aircraft missile systems in 2017, deliveries to the Turkish side were made in the summer-autumn of 2019.
