Yerevan. August 20. INTERFAX-After the 44-day war in Karabakh, Russia has supplied and continues to supply weapons to Armenia, Yerevan intends to completely modernize the army as soon as possible, Secretary of the Armenian Security Council Armen Grigoryan said.
"Since November 2020, we have received weapons for the modernization and renewal of our arsenal, and this process has been continuous. The Armenian government intends to completely modernize the army and this task will be solved in the shortest possible time, " he said on the Armenian Public Television.
According to the program of the Armenian government, Yerevan will expand cooperation with Russia in terms of procurement and modernization of weapons.
"The government will continue the process of modernizing weapons and military equipment, purchasing new types of weapons. A more targeted policy in the field of military and military-technical cooperation will be implemented with partner countries and allied countries, " follows from the program of the Government of the republic, the text of which was published on the website of the executive body on Wednesday.
It is noted that special importance will be attached to the development of allied and partnership relations in this area, "in particular, cooperation with Russia will be expanded, which will be aimed at increasing the military potential of joint forces (systems) and ensuring maximum interaction of the armed forces of the two countries."
"Armenia will develop and modernize its armed forces not for aggression, but for protection against aggression. Armenia has no intentions to seize territories, " the government's program says.
The program of the Armenian government was approved at the meeting of the executive body on August 18, and will be submitted to the parliament for discussion.
