Washington. August 19. INTERFAX-Opponents of the Taliban (the Taliban is a terrorist organization banned in the Russian Federation) have asked the United States and the West to supply weapons and equipment to fight against the Taliban movement that has seized power in the country.
"We need more weapons, more ammunition and more equipment. America and its democratic allies are not just fighting terrorism together with the Afghans. We have a long history consisting of common ideals and struggles. There is still much you can do to help the cause of freedom. You are our only remaining hope, " Ahmad Masood, who currently leads the resistance forces in the Taliban-controlled Panjshir province, wrote in The Washington Post.
He is the son of the head of the Northern Alliance, Ahmad Shah Massoud, who also opposed the Taliban and was killed by Al-Qaeda(a terrorist organization banned in the Russian Federation).
According to Ahad Masood, his detachments were joined by the forces of former Vice President Amrullah Saleh, soldiers of the Afghan regular army, "who were outraged by the surrender of their commanders," the Afghan special forces.
Masoud said that his fighters have a certain stock of weapons and ammunition, "which we have been patiently collecting since the time of my father, because we knew that this day could come."
He assured that he and his fighters will " defend Panjshir as the last bastion of Afghan freedom."
"But this is not enough. If the Taliban field commanders launch an offensive, they will, of course, face strong resistance from our side... And yet we know that our armed forces and logistics will not be enough. They will be rapidly depleted if our friends in the West do not find a way to provide for us without delay," he writes, adding that he "begs the friends of Afghanistan to intercede" for them.
Masood stressed: "The Taliban movement is not a problem only for the Afghan people. Under the control of the Taliban, Afghanistan will undoubtedly become the epicenter of radical Islamist terrorism; plots against democracies will be hatched here again."
