Moscow. August 19. INTERFAX - There are no prerequisites for the entry of the Russian military contingent into Afghanistan, Russia will focus on political and diplomatic efforts, said the Secretary of the Security Council of the Russian Federation Nikolai Patrushev.
"There are no prerequisites for this," Patrushev said in an interview with the Izvestia newspaper, answering a question about the possibility of introducing a Russian military contingent into Afghanistan.
"In the Afghan direction, we will focus primarily on political and diplomatic efforts, together with our partners we will look for ways to establish an intra-Afghan dialogue and a peaceful settlement of the problems existing in the country," Patrushev said.
According to him, the Moscow format has been created for these purposes, in particular. "In addition, we attach great importance to the coordinating role of the UN in international efforts for the Afghan settlement," the Secretary of the Security Council said.
"Russia is interested in a peaceful, unified, developing Afghanistan, from whose territory there will be no threats to the region. We are ready to establish a dialogue with those forces that will rely on the will of the Afghan people, follow their aspirations and work to turn Afghanistan into a normally functioning, strong, prosperous state," Patrushev said.
The Taliban ("Taliban", a terrorist organization banned in the Russian Federation) entered Kabul on August 15 and declared that they had liberated Afghanistan, they consider the war to be over. Before that, against the background of the withdrawal of US troops and their allies from Afghanistan, the Taliban conducted a large-scale offensive against the Afghan government forces.
