The Turkish defense company Meteksan Defense Industry Inc. has announced the development of a new ground-based laser system called NAZAR. This is a missile defense system. It was first presented at the 15th International Defense Industry Exhibition IDEF 2021.
This is written by the Defense Blog. According to the developer company, the ground installation was created to protect military bases and other objects from enemy missiles. NAZAR can neutralize missiles with optical and infrared homing heads. To do this, it uses the methods of directed laser blinding and functional damage.
NAZAR was developed under a contract with the Department of Defense Industry under the Administration of the President of Turkey. They are working on it in stages. At the first stage, the laser is proposed to be used on a mobile platform, easily transporting it to the right places in accordance with operational needs. The electricity required for the operation of the system is generated by its own generator, so there is no need for an external power source.
Following the ground-based system, they plan to create a ship-based version.
