Washington. August 16. INTERFAX-US President Joe Biden said on Monday that Washington has provided comprehensive support to the Afghan forces so that they can fight against the Taliban (a terrorist organization banned in the Russian Federation).
"We gave them everything so that they could determine their future. But we could not provide them with the desire to fight for their future, " Biden said.
He noted that the Americans "cannot and should not fight and die in the war if the Afghan forces are not willing to fight for themselves."
The Taliban began active hostilities in Afghanistan in May against the background of the beginning of the withdrawal of US troops and their allies from the country. The Taliban forces, who entered the Afghan capital on Sunday and occupied the presidential residence, said that they had liberated Afghanistan and considered the war they had waged to be over.
