Baku claims shelling from the Armenian side
Yerevan/Baku. August 16. INTERFAX - A shootout between Armenian and Azerbaijani servicemen took place on Monday evening on the Gegharkunik section of the Armenian-Azerbaijani border, there are dead on both sides, the Armenian Defense Ministry reports.
"On August 16, at 18:10, units of the Azerbaijani Armed Forces opened fire on Armenian positions in the Gegharkunik region (east of Armenia - IF). As a result of the shooting, a serviceman of the Armenian Armed Forces, Private Arman Hakobyan, born in 2002, was killed, " the press service of the Ministry of Defense reports.
The ministry noted that as a result of the retaliatory actions taken by the Armenian side, three servicemen were killed and one wounded on the Azerbaijani side.
For its part, the Azerbaijani Defense Ministry reported that the Armenian Armed Forces fired at the positions of the Azerbaijani army in the direction of the Kalbajar district on Monday evening.
"The shelling was carried out from 18:45 to 20:30 from the positions of the Armenian Armed Forces in the Zarkyand settlement of Basarkechar district against the positions of the Azerbaijani military in the Yukhary Ayrim settlement of Kalbajar district from small arms of various calibers," the report says.
According to the ministry, there are no losses among the personnel of the Azerbaijani army.
On May 12-13, Azerbaijani army units entered the territory of Armenia in the Syunik (Black Lake) and Gegharkunik regions. Armenia has appealed to the CSTO in this regard. Earlier, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said that he was discussing with Moscow the issue of deploying Russian border guards in the border line with Azerbaijan from the east to the south of Armenia.
In early August, Armenian Defense Minister Arshak Karapetyan said at a meeting with CSTO Secretary General Stanislav Zasem that Armenia will solve the problem of the violation of its borders by the Azerbaijani military by force if it is not possible to reach a peaceful solution.
Earlier on Monday, a senior ensign of the Armenian Armed Forces was killed in a shootout at the site of the Yeraskh settlement in the southwestern Ararat region on the border with the Nakhichevan Autonomous Republic.
Since July 14, the situation on the border of Armenia with Nakhichevan in the area of the settlement of Yeraskh has also worsened. On August 10, the CSTO Secretary General Stanislav Zas visited the border of Armenia with the Nakhichevan Autonomous Republic of Azerbaijan in the area of the Yeraskh settlement.
