Berlin. August 16. INTERFAX - German Chancellor Angela Merkel said that the operation of NATO forces in Afghanistan was not successful, lessons should be learned from what happened.
"Al-Qaeda" (a terrorist organization banned in the Russian Federation - IF) can no longer organize such terrorist attacks from Afghanistan against the United States, as in September 2011, but everything else failed as we wanted and planned. And this conclusion is deplorable for many Afghans who have done a lot on this path, but it is quite obvious that the development was not so great, " Merkel told reporters in Berlin on Monday evening.
According to her, much more time was needed for changes for the better in the country.
