London. August 16. INTERFAX-British Prime Minister Boris Johnson said on Monday that after the withdrawal of US troops from Afghanistan, the British military had no real opportunity to stay there alone, without allies, Sky News reports.
"When the United States made this decision, we felt that it would be wrong to act unilaterally and be an occupying force. We talked to our international partners about this, but it was obvious that this was not possible, " Johnson said.
Downing Street noted that the British authorities continue to monitor the movement of insurgents from the Taliban group (banned in the Russian Federation), and are also doing everything possible to ensure the safety of British citizens who are in Afghanistan. London also announced that it will cooperate with other countries to prevent a humanitarian crisis in Afghanistan.
"It is important that the international community works together to convey to any new government, whatever it may be, that no one wants Afghanistan to become a hotbed of terrorism. Any recognition of the new government of Afghanistan should take place on a joint, not unilateral basis, and we will work on this, " British Prime Minister's spokesman Max Blaine said on Monday.
Earlier, the Taliban announced that they had taken control of the whole of Afghanistan and considered the war they were waging to be over.
