Washington. August 15. INTERFAX-The militants of the Taliban movement (banned in the Russian Federation) are in Kabul, and they do not have to deal with any large-scale resistance, CNN reports.
"We heard the crackle of gunfire-here and there, but there were no reports... about street battles or about the fact that the Afghan security forces are concentrated in certain places to prevent them (the Taliban - IF) coming, " the TV channel quotes the words of its correspondent at the scene of the events, Nick Paton Welsh.
According to him, the Taliban, apparently, "are moving quietly through the city."
He noted that Afghanistan is going through unprecedented times, because "no one could have imagined that the Taliban would freely enter a city with a population of six million people"; and also because Afghan President Ashraf Ghani, who announced plans to stay in Kabul, "has now disappeared, without a transitional government that would potentially replace him."
In turn, the press secretary of the Taliban movement, Zabihullah Mujahid, told the Tolo News TV channel that the Taliban were "asked" to send their detachments to the city limits. He assured that the security situation is under control.
Earlier, Mujahid said that some areas of Kabul are under the control of the Taliban. "The Islamic Emirate ordered its troops to enter the areas of Kabul from which the enemy left. There is a risk of theft and robbery, " he wrote on Twitter.
Mujahid confirmed that in the morning the movement announced the withdrawal of its forces from the city.
