Baku. August 14. INTERFAX-AZERBAIJAN-Baku expects Moscow to fulfill all the points of the trilateral statement on Karabakh, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev said.
"Our expectations from Russia are the fulfillment of all the points of the trilateral statement on Karabakh. This statement was signed by the leaders of three countries - Azerbaijan, Russia and Armenia. Most of these points have been implemented, but there are issues that are still open, " Aliyev said in an interview with the Turkish TV channel CNN Turk.
He noted that Russia, as a neighbor of Azerbaijan and a close ally of Armenia, plays a special role in the region.
"We hope that after that Russia will continue its efforts and take steps to achieve long - term peace in the region," Aliyev said, adding that Azerbaijan expects Russia not to arm Armenia.
"The Armenian people and the Armenian leadership have come to terms with the new situation and defeat. The recent parliamentary elections in Armenia have shown this. An unprecedented event in history, when the losing leadership received the trust of the people. Therefore, in this situation, arming Armenia defies any logic. We are waiting for Russia to stop arming Armenia, but we are not seeing this yet. There were several statements, including from the Russian side, when the Russian Defense Minister said a few days ago that the process of supplying weapons to Armenia had begun, " Aliyev said.
According to him, the new Defense minister of Armenia "made several irresponsible statements," in particular, that if an Azerbaijani soldier crosses the border of Armenia, they will open fire on him.
"Apparently, the second Karabakh war did not become a lesson for them. If so, then we are ready to teach another lesson. Therefore, we hope that Russia will not arm Armenia. Since there is no need for this, " Aliyev said.
"Therefore, we want Russia to take into account our concerns in this issue, because no matter how many weapons are transferred, there will still be no parity of forces. Over the past 30 years, Russia has transferred several billion worth of weapons to Armenia for free. Some of them are now in a ruined form exhibited as museum exhibits. Despite this, the Armenian army was completely defeated, " Aliyev said.
