New York (UN). August 13. INTERFAX-The situation in Afghanistan is becoming unmanageable, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said on Friday.
"The situation in Afghanistan is getting out of control. Over the past month alone, more than 1,000 people have been killed or injured as a result of indiscriminate attacks against civilians, especially in the provinces of Helmand, Kandahar and Herat," he told reporters.
He noted that at least 241 thousand people also had to leave their homes because of the fighting, and key infrastructure is being destroyed.
The UN Secretary General stressed that the seizure of power by military means in Afghanistan will only lead to the continuation of the civil war or the international isolation of the country. At the same time, he called on the Taliban movement (banned in the Russian Federation) to immediately stop the offensive, and the parties to the conflict to resolve the crisis through negotiations.
