The United States is fully confident that if the Taliban (the Taliban movement, a terrorist organization banned in the Russian Federation) captures Afghanistan, this government will not have recognition in the world community. This was stated at a regular briefing on Thursday, August 12, by the head of the press service of the State Department, Ned Price.
According to him, the participants of the Doha consultations on a peaceful settlement in Afghanistan "committed themselves <...> not to recognize any organization that will seize control of Afghanistan by force, not to recognize any force that seeks to seize Afghanistan with weapons."
In the coming weeks, the number of employees of the American embassy in Kabul will be reduced, but the diplomatic mission itself will continue to work.
"We continue to reduce our civilian presence in Kabul amid the changing security situation. In the coming weeks, we expect to reduce [our presence] in Afghanistan to a basic diplomatic representation, " Price said.
The representative also said that the Pentagon will temporarily transfer additional forces to the Kabul International Airport to facilitate the export of American diplomatic workers from the country.
"To facilitate this evacuation, the [US] Department of Defense will temporarily send additional personnel to the Hamid Karzai International Airport in Kabul," he said.
The diplomat stressed that sending additional forces to the Kabul airport is not a re-entry of American troops — it is only a matter of redeployment to ensure the safe departure of American diplomatic workers.
"This is not a re-introduction of the Armed Forces to fulfill the mission that they carried out before May 1 [this year]. This is the redeployment of forces to Hamid Karzai International Airport to help ensure the safe reduction of our civilian personnel. .."We are not talking about the resumption of military participation in the conflict in Afghanistan," he assured.
The United States will also speed up the evacuation of Afghan residents applying for American visas.
"To date, we are talking about 1.2 thousand. [a person], " he said, referring to the number of Afghans who have already been evacuated. "They [flights of planes with Afghans] will begin to be carried out on a daily basis in the coming days. Our focus is on increasing the pace of our relocation operations."
Price also noted that US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken and Pentagon Chief Lloyd Austin discussed with Afghan President Ashraf Ghani the coordination of plans related to the reduction of the American diplomatic presence in the country. The diplomat said that the United States is confident that if the Taliban seize control of Afghanistan, other countries will not recognize this new power.
Earlier on August 12, the Taliban movement (a terrorist group banned in the Russian Federation) captured Kandahar, the second largest city in Afghanistan.
