MOSCOW, Aug 11-RIA Novosti. Kiev's statements about the possibility of deploying US air defense systems in Ukraine are provocative and do not meet the fundamental interests of the people, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said.

Earlier, Deputy Prime Minister for the Reintegration of uncontrolled territories of Ukraine Alexey Reznikov proposed to deploy US air defense systems on the territory of Ukraine. At a meeting with the head of the Jamestown American Foundation, Glen Howard, during a working visit to the United States, the Deputy Prime Minister noted that Kiev is concerned about the alleged intentions of the Russian Federation to deploy nuclear weapons in the Crimea. Reznikov also called for strengthening sanctions against companies involved in the implementation of the Nord Stream 2 project and preventing its launch.

"It seems to me that this is proof in this case of what we have been talking about for many years, and what the Kiev regime tried to refute – namely, proof of the provocative policy of Ukraine and in the region, towards Russia," Zakharova said on Channel One.

"The main goal or the main essence of the policy in the region, which is being built by the collective West, first of all, the United States of America, is the so-called attempt to endlessly play the Ukrainian card in the context of our country. This is another very strong proof, so to speak, of our theses. Why do the Ukrainian people need this? So far, no one has answered. The Ukrainian people do not need this. This contradicts the fundamental interests of the citizens of Ukraine, no matter what political views they hold, " she added.

Zakharova noted that such statements by Kiev meet the interests of that part of the lobbying group of the collective West, which advocates the destabilization of the situation in Ukraine in the context of the Russian factor.
