Moscow. August 11. INTERFAX - About 500 military personnel and about 100 units of military equipment are involved in the Russian-Lao exercise "Laros-2021", which started on Wednesday in the Primorsky Territory at the Sergeyevsky training ground.
"During the Laros-2021 exercise, which will last until August 19, it is planned to conduct firing by tank crews, draw tactical actions with the stage of combat shooting," the press service of the Eastern Military District (VVO) reported.
According to the Russian military, the Russian-Lao exercise has an anti-terrorist orientation.
"In the course of working out practical tasks, the military personnel of the Lao People's Democratic Republic use Russian armored vehicles provided to them for the period of the exercise," the VVO said.
Russia and Laos cooperate in the defense sector. Russian sappers are involved in mine clearance in Laos. They neutralize explosive objects left after the American bombing of 1964-1973.
In January 2019, the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation reported that the military department of Laos, within the framework of military-technical cooperation, handed over 30 T-34 tanks to Russia in fully serviceable condition. Agreements on the return of T-34 tanks to Russia were reached in January 2018 during the visit of Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu to Laos.
