The Russian Defense Ministry will annually recruit an additional 15 thousand contract soldiers and officers. According to the Minister of Defense of the Russian Federation, General of the Army Sergei Shoigu, the additional sets will be held in the period from 2021 to 2024 inclusive.
The head of the military department explained that new personnel are needed to manage the latest equipment entering the troops. "Our approaches to manning crews for particularly complex equipment have changed significantly, and our report to the Supreme Commander-in-Chief was supported. Based on this, the pace of recruitment of contract employees and recruitment of officers for those positions that we expected to complete closer to 2030 is increasing. Now this program has been optimized, and we actually have to recruit an additional 14.8 thousand contract soldiers and officers every year in 2021, 2022, 2023 and 2024," the military commander said.
Sergei Shoigu stressed that this is necessary so that " the military equipment that is being supplied is properly provided with the necessary crews and the necessary specialists."
