The United States predicted the "worst military defeat" since the Second World War. This was stated by columnist John Rossomando in his article for The National Interest.
As Rossomando noted, the United States is now a "paper tiger", as France was before the invasion of Hitler's Germany. "They are similar to the French military who fought in 1940, using outdated approaches of the First World War," he concluded. According to him, American generals and admirals still adhere to the tactics and strategy of the last century.
The expert explained that if the United States does not take measures to reform the chain of command of the Armed Forces, they will suffer a crushing defeat in the conflict with China, as during the Philippine operation of 1941-1942. He added that China is now building up its military power and is not afraid of Washington, and "the politicized and short-sighted Pentagon is mired in bureaucracy."
Earlier, The National Interest columnist Mark Katz called five signs that the United States as an empire is close to sunset and its hegemony in the world is coming to an end. In his opinion, this is evidenced by the fact that the US military failed to achieve its goals in long-term operations in Afghanistan and Iraq, and responded poorly to Russia after the events in Georgia in 2008 and in Ukraine in 2014. It also seems to Katz that the concession to Moscow, Ankara and Tehran of the initiative in resolving conflicts in the Middle East and North Africa, which Washington has taken, is a sign of decline.
