TSAMTO, August 10. Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko said that Minsk is interested in receiving S-400 air defense systems from Russia and is confident that the republic will receive them.
"The issue of the S-400 was raised very correctly. Such a question has been put to the President of Russia, about (buying) at some similar price, on credit. Because we don't have such money, but we are conducting a dialogue with him about the S-400 being delivered to the Republic of Belarus... the S-400 is of great interest to us. And I am sure that we will get these complexes. Moreover, we have saved a lot of money on the nuclear power plant, "Alexander Lukashenko said on August 9 during a "Big conversation with the president", which was broadcast live on Belarusian TV channels.
According to him, part of the saved funds during the construction of the Belarusian NPP can be used for the purchase of weapons in Russia, including the S-400 air defense system.
"There will be money left, we are talking about the amount from 300 to 500 million dollars, this is a decent amount of military-technical equipment, including S-400, at domestic prices," the RIA Novosti news agency quotes A. Lukashenko.
