TSAMTO, August 10. President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko said that he would be ready to deploy the Russian Armed Forces in the republic in case of danger of unleashing a new world war, RIA Novosti reports.
"You guys (Western countries-ed.), why are you worried about the fact that we will host a Russian base? It is not needed here, and the president and I (of Russia – ed.) have long decided. Why are you so worried if you have a base sitting on a base and driving this base, rattling nuclear weapons? Are you setting any conditions for us, are you afraid that there will be a Chinese or Russian base here, or a Ukrainian one? You'll figure it out at home first. But if it is necessary, then there will not just be a base here, all the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation will be stationed here… Under what conditions? In case of danger of unleashing a new world war, "A. Lukashenko said on August 9 during a "Big conversation with the president", which was broadcast live on Belarusian TV channels.
The Head of State also noted that it makes no sense for the Russian Federation to spend money and create military bases on the territory of the republic.
"I would be interested if some serious rocket launchers were placed here, but they cannot be brought directly to the theater of military operations, directly into the" garden "of NATO members, because they will be fired from the most ordinary weapons, "Grads", some other mortars and so on. Therefore, Russia will never move nuclear warheads here, especially since they will be directly under fire from the territory of Poland and Lithuania, " A. Lukashenko explained.
As the agency reminds, earlier A. Lukashenko said that Minsk is ready to accept Russian military personnel on the territory of the Republic to ensure the security of the Union State, but there is no such need yet. A. Lukashenko also said that the issue of deploying Russian air bases in Belarus has never been discussed with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin, with modern weapons there is no need for this.
