Moscow. August 9. INTERFAX-CSTO Secretary General Stanislav Zas notes the growing tension around the entire perimeter of the Organization's responsibility, in particular, around Belarus and on the Armenian-Azerbaijani border.
On Monday, he arrived in Armenia, where he held a number of meetings, the CSTO press service reported.
In particular, Zas met with the heads of the Armenian Foreign and Defense Ministries Armen Grigoryan and Arshak Karapetyan, as well as with the head of the staff of the Security Council of Armenia Hayk Petrosyan.
"During the meeting with Armen Grigoryan, it was noted that tension is growing along the entire perimeter of the Organization's area of responsibility. In the European direction, a combined attack on Belarus continues with the aim of overthrowing the legitimate government. At the same time, almost all tools are used: psychological, economic sanctions and a demonstration of military force to exert pressure on Belarus," the report says.
The CSTO Secretary General also noted at the meetings that the tension that has arisen on the Armenian-Azerbaijani border negatively affects the security of both Armenia itself and in the CSTO area of responsibility as a whole. "We are seriously concerned about the increasing frequency and expansion of the geography of armed incidents, as a result of which there are victims. We believe that the possibilities of resolving the border contradictions between Armenia and Azerbaijan by political and diplomatic measures are far from being exhausted," Zas said, as quoted by the CSTO press service.
During the meetings, Zas informed the Armenian side about the preparations for the next session of the Collective Security Council, the press service added.
