Minsk/Moscow. August 9. INTERFAX-AVN-Belarus is interested in buying the Russian S-400 anti-aircraft missile system and counts on a positive decision of the Russian leadership, Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko said.
"Such a question has been put to the President of Russia - that at a reasonable price, for a loan-because we do not have such money now. But we are conducting a dialogue with him (with the President of the Russian Federation - "IF") about the S-400 being delivered to the Republic of Belarus," Lukashenko said during a "Big conversation" with the public and the media on Monday.
"We are very interested in the S-400, and I am sure that we will receive these complexes," he added.
According to Lukashenko, the funds of the Russian state loan, which was previously issued for the construction of the Belarusian NPP, can be used to purchase the S-400 air defense system and other modern weapons of the Russian Federation. "We have saved a lot of money on the nuclear power plant. And there was Putin's promise: here is a loan for a nuclear power plant of $10 billion - how much you will save - for other projects, " the head of state said.
"I want to build a nitrogen plant for the money saved, and we will additionally process about 2 billion cubic meters of natural gas. There will be from $300 million to $500 million-a decent amount, we will send it for the purchase of military-technical equipment, including S-400 complexes, " he said.
On January 14, Commander of the Air Force and Air Defense Forces of Belarus Igor Golub said that Belarus plans to conclude a contract with Russia for the supply of S-400 systems and Pantsir-S complexes.
