TSAMTO, August 9. The US State Department has approved the potential supply to Japan under the Foreign Military Sales program of a batch of RIM-116C Blok-2 missiles and other related equipment for ship-based RAM air defense systems.
The sale price may amount to $ 61.5 million.
The US Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) notified the US Congress of the planned sale on August 4.
The Japanese government has asked the US administration about the possibility of selling up to 44 RIM-116C (RAM – Rolling Airframe Missiles) "Block-2"missiles.
The request also includes the Block-2 RAM guidance control groups, RAM Guided Missile Round Pack Tri-Pack transport and storage containers, operator manuals and technical documentation, the provision of engineering, technical and logistical support services from the contractor and the US government, as well as other related elements of material support and support for the program.
As stated, "the implementation of this program is in line with the interests of US foreign policy and national security and will increase the level of combat readiness of the ally, which is the driving force for ensuring political stability and economic progress in the Asia-Pacific region. It is vital for the US national interests to help Japan develop and maintain a strong and effective self-defense capability."
The notification notes that the delivery of the requested missiles will strengthen the capabilities to protect the airspace over important air and sea communication routes in East Asia and the western Pacific. At the same time, the Japanese Self-Defense Forces will not experience difficulties when adopting the systems.
Raytheon Missile and Defense company was chosen as the main contractor of the project.
The notice of sale is published in accordance with the requirements of American law. The description and the cost of sale reflect the highest estimated indicators based on the initial requirements. The actual purchase price may be lower, depending on the final requirements, financial capabilities and signed purchase and sale agreements, if they are concluded.
