Moscow. August 9. INTERFAX-Units of the Armed Forces of Laos have arrived in Primorsky Krai to participate in the joint Russian-Lao exercise "Laros-2021", the Eastern Military District (VVO) said on Monday.
"The Lao servicemen arrived by plane of the VTA of the Russian Aerospace Forces at the Knevichi airport and completed the customs procedures. Then the servicemen of the armed forces of Laos made a 135-kilometer move to the modern autonomous field camp of the Sergeyevsky training ground, where a joint exercise will take place, " the report says.
According to the Russian military, the Russian-Lao exercise is aimed at combating international terrorism. The servicemen of the two countries will have to work out the tasks of eliminating conditional illegal armed formations.
Russia and Laos cooperate in the defense sector. Russian sappers are involved in mine clearance on the territory of Laos. They neutralize explosive objects left after the American bombing of 1964-1973.
In January 2019, the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation reported that the military department of Laos, within the framework of military-technical cooperation, handed over 30 T-34 tanks to Russia in fully serviceable condition. Agreements on the return of T-34 tanks to Russia were reached in January 2018 during the visit of Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu to Laos.
