Washington. August 7. INTERFAX-US State Department spokesman Ned Price warned that rocket attacks on Israeli territory carried out by Hezbollah militants from Lebanese territory threaten the sovereignty of Lebanon.
"The United States condemns Hezbollah's missile strikes on Israel in the strongest possible terms. This violence puts Israelis and Lebanese at risk and threatens the stability and sovereignty of Lebanon, " Price said in a statement released by the State Department.
He called on the Lebanese government to "urgently prevent such attacks and take this area (the area of the launch of rockets - IF) under its control", as well as to facilitate the activities of the UN peacekeeping forces stationed in southern Lebanon (UNIFIL).
According to the diplomat, the United States continues to interact with Israeli and Lebanese officials, as well as with the Lebanese armed forces.
As reported, at least 20 rockets were fired at Israel on Friday from southern Lebanon. In a statement, Hezbollah said that "dozens" of rockets were fired at "open terrain" near Israeli positions in the disputed Shebaa region.
Rocket launches from Lebanon towards Israel began on Wednesday. Then three rockets were fired in the direction of the Golan Heights, part of which is controlled by Israel.
The Israeli military has launched retaliatory strikes on the places from where the fire was fired, according to a message on the Israel Defense Forces ' Twitter page.
