ROSTOV-ON-DON, 4 Aug-RIA Novosti. The opening ceremony of the international exercise "Indra-2021" was held at the Prudoboy training ground in the Volgograd region, the head of the press service of the Southern Military District Vadim Astafyev told reporters.
"The opening ceremony of the joint Russian-Indian ground forces exercise Indra-2021 was held at the Prudboy training ground. The event was attended by servicemen of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation and India, representatives of the command of the Southern Military District, the honor guard company and the military band of the district connection," he said.
After the solemn raising of state flags and the performance of anthems, a rally was held. The commander of the 8th Combined Arms Army of the Southern Military District, Lieutenant General Andrey Sychevoy, wished the servicemen successful cooperation, and also expressed confidence that the Indra-2021 exercise will further strengthen bilateral Russian-Indian cooperation.
The Indra-2021 exercise will be held in the Volgograd Region until mid-August. It will be attended by 250 servicemen of motorized rifle, tank and artillery units, a reconnaissance company of a motorized rifle unit of the Southern Military District, as well as a tactical group of 250 Indian servicemen.
The events will involve more than 100 units of weapons and military equipment, including armored combat tracked vehicles BMP-3, T-90A tanks, multiple launch rocket systems "Grad", armored personnel carriers, drones, assault and army aviation of the Southern Military District, as well as about 300 different targets, of which more than 100 are mobile, imitating enemy vehicles and armored vehicles.
The task of the exercise is to increase the readiness of government bodies, forces and means to combat terrorism. The servicemen will perform tactical actions to search, detect and destroy illegal armed formations, search and destroy conditional explosive devices, conduct radiation, chemical and biological reconnaissance in buildings and on the ground.
