Ukraine intends to withdraw from the agreement of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) on joint activities in the exploration and use of outer space. This is on Wednesday, August 4, follows from the draft decree of the President of the country Vladimir Zelensky.
"To withdraw from the agreement on joint activities for the exploration and use of outer space, made on December 30, 1991 in Minsk," RIA Novosti quotes the text of the document.
The explanatory note to the draft says that this agreement is outdated and has lost its practical significance. In addition, the document does not correspond to the current state of cooperation between the CIS countries in the field of space.
On July 28, Ukraine decided to stop participating in the protocol on the approval of the regulations on the Interstate Space Council of the Commonwealth of Independent States due to the loss of practical significance.
On April 21, the government of Ukraine approved a draft law that provides for the country's withdrawal from the CIS agreement on the creation of an interstate reserve of biological products and other animal protection products. It was noted that the country's participation in the agreement does not make sense, since Ukraine has not used the drugs listed in the list for the past 10 years.
Ukraine is one of the countries that stood at the origins of the creation of the commonwealth in 1991. At the same time, it has not ratified the charter of the organization developed in 1993. After the coup d'etat of 2014, the new leadership of the country announced its intention to leave the agreements concluded within the framework of the CIS.
In March last year, the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine decided to terminate the country's chairmanship in the CIS and begin withdrawing from the commonwealth. Kiev has not been working in the statutory bodies of the organization since 2018.
