Yerevan. August 2. INTERFAX-Armenian President Armen Sarkissian signed a decree on Monday appointing Arshak Karapetyan to the post of Defense Minister of the republic.
According to the presidential press service, the decree was signed on the basis of a proposal by Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan.
Earlier on Monday, Arshak Karapetyan was dismissed from the post of First Deputy Defense Minister of Armenia by Pashinyan's decision.
Major General Karapetyan became an adviser to Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan in December 2018 after he testified against former Armenian President Robert Kocharian and a number of former high-ranking officials in the case of the dispersal of an opposition rally on March 1, 2008.
On April 6, Pashinyan removed him from the post of his adviser and on April 13 he was appointed to the post of first Deputy Chief of the General Staff.
