TSAMTO, August 2. The US State Department has approved the potential supply of FGM-148 Javelin anti-tank missiles and related equipment to Thailand as part of the Foreign Military Sales program. The total cost of the sale may amount to $ 83.5 million.
The US Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) handed over the necessary certificates, notifying Congress on July 30 about the possible sale.
The Thai government has appealed to the US administration with a request for the sale of 300 FGM-148E Javelin anti-tank guided missiles and 50 sighting and launching devices (CLU).
The request also includes simulators, simulated missiles, technical support of the Tactical Aviation and Ground Ammunition Project Implementation Office (TAGM), contractor support during the service life, spare manuals, batteries/chargers, training of operators and ammunition officers, Level 2 maintenance training, system integration and verification (SICO), other related elements of logistics and software support.
As stated, this sale is in line with the interests of US foreign policy and national security and will increase the level of combat capability of the main non-NATO ally in Southeast Asia. The Javelin ATGM requested by Thailand will replace the outdated 106-mm recoilless guns that the Thai Armed Forces received as part of the military assistance program in Vietnam. The sale will allow the Thai Armed Forces to modernize the arsenal of light anti-tank weapons and improve interaction with the US Armed Forces.
As noted in the notification, the sale of the Javelin ATGM will increase Thailand's capabilities to counter existing and future threats, strengthen the defense capability and the potential to protect the territorial integrity of the country.
The main contractor of the project was chosen by the joint venture Javelin Joint Venture of Raytheon and Lockheed Martin. The terms of the offset agreements will be determined during further negotiations between the buyer and the contractor.
The notice of sale is published in accordance with the requirements of American law. The description and the cost of sale reflect the highest estimated indicators based on the initial requirements. The actual purchase price may be lower, depending on the final requirements, financial capabilities and signed purchase and sale agreements, if they are concluded.
