Moscow. July 29. INTERFAX-The Kremlin said that it is closely monitoring the NATO exercises in Georgia and is ready to take appropriate countermeasures.
"This, of course, is a subject for very careful monitoring on our part, and most importantly, it, of course, obliges us to take measures to ensure our security," Russian Presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov said in response to a request to comment on the NATO exercises that have begun in Georgia with the participation of Great Britain and Azerbaijan.
According to him, "this is something that both our president and the Defense Minister have repeatedly talked about."
Earlier, the Georgian Defense Ministry reported that the annual Agile Spirit exercises, which will be held in Georgia for the 10th time, will be held from July 26 to August 6.
About 2,500 servicemen from 15 countries - Georgia, the United States, Estonia, Germany, Latvia, Lithuania, Romania, Poland, Spain, Turkey, Ukraine, Great Britain, Canada, Italy and Azerbaijan-will take part in the exercises. It was noted that the United States will send about 700 military personnel to Georgia for the exercises. The United States also transferred various military equipment to Georgia by sea from the Romanian port of Constanta.
