The remaining differences between Russia and the United States in the discussion of space can be overcome. This was announced on July 29 by Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov.
According to him, this has become one of the integral elements of the negotiations on strategic stability. "We also have differences with the United States in this area. They are connected primarily with the fact that the Americans put forward certain claims against us, which, in our opinion, are completely unfounded," the senior diplomat said.
As Ryabkov recalled, Washington refuses to work in the directions proposed by Moscow. This refers to the draft drawn up by the Russian Federation and the People's Republic of China, which obliges to prevent the placement of weapons in space.
"I will not reproduce their logic, their arguments in this case, we have repeatedly stated all this. I want to note something else: we proceed from the fact that space as a whole, in all aspects, as well as other new technologies and opportunities that the parties have in the military sphere, should become part of the very "security equation" that we have been talking about for a long time," Interfax quotes the diplomat. According to Ryabkov, without solving this issue, the potential dialogue will become incomplete.
As the deputy Foreign Minister added, on July 28, during the talks in Geneva, the Russian side set up American partners for a comprehensive solution of strategic security issues.
The Russian-American talks were held on July 28 in Geneva. The interdepartmental delegation of the Russian Federation was represented by Ryabkov, and the American side was represented by First Deputy Secretary of State Wendy Sherman.
According to the Russian Ambassador to the United States Anatoly Antonov, the Russian side is ready to discuss with the United States any weapon with a strategic potential. Moscow has proposed to develop a "new security equation", which will be based on the entire range of offensive and defensive weapons in nuclear and non-nuclear equipment.
