The head of the Northern Command of the US Armed Forces, General Glen Van Herk, announced the intention of the US military to deploy a new generation of anti-missiles in Alaska. His words are transmitted by RIA Novosti .
It is planned to place missile interceptors in this state in 2028. As the American general noted, at the moment this process is moving "completely according to the schedule".
According to Van Herk, the US Missile Defense Agency pays great attention to the issue of the operation of a long-range missile attack warning radar station. "This should play a crucial role for our missile defense capabilities," he added.
Earlier, the deputy chief of staff of the US Air Force, General Clinton Heinout , said that last year the US intercepted a record number of Russian military aircraft from Alaska since the Cold War. He noted that there is a warming trend in the Arctic, which contributes to the growth of activity.
