DUSHANBE, July 28. /TASS/. The member countries of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) are invited to the Russian-Belarusian maneuvers "West - 2021". This is stated in the communique following the meeting of defense ministers of the SCO member states, which was held on Wednesday in Dushanbe.
"Expressing their desire for further development of cooperation between the armed forces, the heads of the defense departments welcomed the invitation of the Russian side to the SCO member states to participate in the joint strategic exercise of the armed forces of the Republic of Belarus and the Russian Federation "West - 2021", the document says.
In addition, the heads of the defense departments at today's meeting "highly appreciated the actions of the Russian Armed Forces to stabilize the situation in Syria and the peacekeeping process in Nagorno-Karabakh."
The Zapad-2021 strategic exercises will be held from September 10 to 16 on the territory of Russia and Belarus. The designated topic is "The use of groups of troops (forces) in the interests of ensuring the military security of the Union State".
