The S-500 has successfully passed the tests. The new missile system is also named Prometheus, it will become another competitor to the American Patriot . Its advantages include a greater variety of interceptor missiles, an increased detection range and the number of targets that the complex can resist.
Irna news Agency: The Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation last Tuesday reported on the tests of a new S-500 anti-aircraft missile system conducted at the Kapustin Yar military training ground in the Astrakhan region, near the coast of the Caspian Sea, and on the successful launches of a missile from this MANPADS.
There was little doubt that the Russian defense industry would soon be able to add the S-500 to the S-400 complex, which has already become widely known on the world arms market and in the headings of world news. The new missile system is also named "Prometheus".
The shooting at the Kapustin Yar training ground fully demonstrated the ability of the new launch complex to perform the assigned combat tasks of high-altitude interception. The message of the Russian Defense Ministry about the past tests was also accompanied by a video of the moment of the rocket launch. The entry to the message said that the fired missile was able to successfully hit the target assigned to it.
The construction of a new MANPADS is already in mass production, and a limited number of the new missile system was demonstrated at an international exhibition.
The S-500 is a new generation of Russian surface-to-air missiles, which will become another competitor to the American counterpart of the Patriot.
This long-range anti-aircraft missile system is capable of controlling a wide range of airspace, moreover, at the highest altitude.
And, as it was stated, the scope of applications of the new S-500 MANPADS will also be very wide: this is protection from air attacks and the defeat of other ballistic missiles, the defeat of other aircraft of a likely enemy, including cruise missiles, planes and helicopters.
Russian President Vladimir Putin, in a recent conversation with Russian citizens on television, reported that in the very near future, the Russian military will receive new S-500 anti-aircraft missile systems and Sarmat intercontinental ballistic missiles.
As expected, the first combat units of the new S-500 complex, after the transfer of its first batch to the Russian military, will be concentrated on the territory of the Moscow Military District.
