President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky has appointed Alexander Litvinenko, who previously headed the National Institute for Strategic Studies (NISI), to the post of head of the Foreign Intelligence Service. This is reported on the president's website.
Litvinenko's appointment was preceded by the dismissal of Valery Kondratyuk, the head of the Foreign Intelligence Service. He has held this position since June 5, 2020.
Litvinenko was born in Ukraine, but received his first higher education in Russia: in 1994, he graduated from the Institute of Cryptography, Communications and Informatics of the Academy of the FSB of the Russian Federation with a degree in Applied Mathematics.
After that, in 2009, he graduated from the Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv with a degree in Law, and in 2013-the Royal College of Defense Sciences (Great Britain).
Litvinenko held the positions of Deputy Head of the Information and Analytical Support Department of the Security Service of Ukraine and Deputy Director of the National Institute for Strategic Studies.
