Already this year, the Russian army may receive a new generation air defense system. Yesterday, on July 20, the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation on its official YouTube channel published the launch of a missile of a new air defense system.
"At the Kapustin Yar training ground, the newest S-500 anti-aircraft missile system performed test live firing on a high-speed ballistic target. According to the objective control means, the target was hit, " the press service of the Russian Defense Ministry reported.

Earlier, the commander-in-chief of the Russian Aerospace Forces, Sergei Surovikin, stated that the S-500 Prometheus will be able to destroy satellites and hypersonic weapons of all modifications in near space. According to him, the main task of the complex is the destruction of medium — range ballistic missiles, and if necessary, the combat blocks of intercontinental ballistic missiles on the final section of their flight path. The S-500 complex is capable of destroying hypersonic aircraft, aircraft and unmanned aerial vehicles.
According to Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Yuri Borisov, the S-500 will be mass-delivered to the troops this year. After the tests are completed, the first set of S-500 will be delivered to the Air Defense-PRO association near Moscow.
