TSAMTO, July 21. The US Department of Defense announced the signing of an agreement for the supply of Stinger anti-aircraft guided missiles by the US Air Defense Command with Raytheon.
The contract value was $ 320.668 million. The volumes, the cost of deliveries and the place of work will be determined within the framework of individual orders. The work under the contract will be completed by June 30, 2026.
FIM-92 "Stinger" is a portable anti-aircraft missile system (MANPADS) developed by General Dynamics for the US Armed Forces, which entered service in 1981. It can be used by dismounted infantry, placed on self-propelled landing gear and helicopters. MANPADS were supplied by the armed forces of the United States and 29 other countries. The missile defense system, operating on the principle of "shot and forgot", is equipped with a passive infrared gps for targeting an air target. The missile defense system provides the defeat of targets at ranges up to 4.8 km (depending on the version) and altitudes up to 3.8 km.
As reported by TSAMTO, in November 2020, the command of the US Armed Forces published a request for information as part of a market study to identify potential sources capable of supplying a new portable anti-aircraft missile system to replace the FIM-92 Stinger MANPADS in service with the US Armed Forces.
Currently, according to the results of the tender, the US military is planning to conclude a contract for the production of up to 8000 new MANPADS to meet its needs no later than 2026.
