The US authorities are planning to build a special intelligence base to monitor the actions of Russia and China in space. This became known to Sky News.
As noted, the new object will appear on the territory of the UK — in Scotland or the southern part of England. It is known that the base will be equipped with equipment that can recognize an object the size of a football at a distance of up to 36 thousand kilometers.
In total, Washington plans to build three radar bases around the world: in addition to the UK, they can be placed in Australia and in the US state of Texas. It is expected that the first object is planned to be put into operation by 2025.
"This is necessary because we want to ensure continuous control over targets that may threaten our systems located in geostationary orbit," American Lieutenant Colonel Jack Walker told the TV channel.
In turn, Air Chief Marshal of the Royal Air Force of Great Britain Mike Wigston (Mike Wigston) explained that already now Russia and China are developing some systems that can pose a serious threat to civil satellites. In particular, according to him, we are talking about ground-based laser installations that can be used to strike targets in space, as well as satellites that deliberately invade the orbit of other vehicles.
