The international advisory group, which includes the European Union, NATO and the United States, called on Kiev to adopt the reform of the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) without delay. This is reported in the Twitter account of the EU Embassy in Ukraine.
"The draft law on the Security Service of Ukraine in the wording approved on July 14 by the Verkhovna Rada Committee on National Security, Defense and Intelligence opens up encouraging prospects for reforming the service and largely corresponds to European and Euro-Atlantic principles and modern practice. We call on the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine to adopt this bill without delay, " the statement says.
According to the EU Embassy, the adoption of this law will transform the special service.
The document, in particular, provides for the reduction of the staff and demilitarization of the SBU and the gradual deprivation of its powers to investigate criminal cases. The EU, NATO and the United States also call on Kiev to approve related regulatory documents, in particular a satellite law that regulates the procedure for transferring the SBU's powers to conduct a pre-trial investigation to other bodies.
Rubaltic.ru It reminds that the Rada approved the draft law on the reform of the organizational and legal bases of the SBU in the first reading on January 28. President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky then stated that this document brings Ukraine closer to the European community. The reform was planned five years ago.
