Moscow. July 14. INTERFAX-Moscow and Beijing intend to extend the agreement on notification of launches of ballistic missiles and space launch vehicles until 2030.
The draft federal law on the ratification of the relevant protocol will be considered on Thursday by the participants of the government meeting, the press service of the Cabinet of Ministers reports.
The protocol provides for the extension of the legal regime established by the agreement for the period until December 16, 2030.
The Protocol on extending the validity of the agreement between the governments of the Russian Federation and the People's Republic of China on Notifications of Launches of Ballistic Missiles and Space Launch Vehicles dated October 13, 2009 was signed on December 15, 2020 in Moscow and Beijing. At that time, Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu, at a video-link meeting with the head of the Chinese military department, Wei Fenghe, said that cooperation between Russia and China in the Asia-Pacific region is an important factor against the background of the deployment of the US global missile defense system (ABM) and Washington's intentions to deploy medium-and shorter-range missiles.
"The continuation of data exchange will contribute to equal cooperation between Russia and China in the Asia-Pacific region. This is especially important when the arms control system has actually been destroyed, the deployment of components of the US global missile defense system continues, and intentions are declared to deploy new American-made medium-and shorter-range missiles in the region, " Shoigu said.
In October 2019, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced that Russia was helping China to create a missile attack warning system (SPRN).
