The head of the Pentagon, Lloyd Austin, during the second telephone conversation with the Minister of National Defense of Turkey, Hulusi Akar, discussed security at the Kabul airport against the background of the withdrawal of the American contingent from Afghanistan.
This is stated in a statement issued by the head of the press service of the American department, John Kirby. According to him, the parties continued to consider the "withdrawal of troops from Afghanistan".
"Austin and Akar exchanged views on security issues, agreed to continue to cooperate on the agreements on the Hamid Karzai International Airport," the Pentagon spokesman said.
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said that his country is ready to maintain a military contingent in Afghanistan if there is financial support from the United States after the withdrawal of NATO troops from there.
