Washington. July 8. INTERFAX-US President Joe Biden, explaining the withdrawal of the US military from Afghanistan, said that he does not intend to send more and more soldiers there without good reasons.
"We already have people serving in Afghanistan whose parents also served in Afghanistan at one time," he said during a speech at the White House.
"Do we need to send their children and grandchildren there (military personnel who are currently in Afghanistan-IF)? Would you send your own children there? " the US president asked.
Biden warned that "we will not send another generation of Americans to Afghanistan" if there are no clear reasons for this.
He recalled that about 2 thousand American soldiers were killed on the Afghan territory, about 20 thousand were injured.
Answering a journalist's question, the president said that he did not think it was right to draw analogies between the withdrawal of US forces from Afghanistan and the withdrawal of American forces from Vietnam: in his opinion, the military capabilities of the Taliban (the Taliban movement is banned in the Russian Federation) are much more modest than the forces that opposed the United States in Vietnam.
