Tajikistan keeps its border "on a fairly good lock"
Moscow. July 8. INTERFAX-An increase in the number of contingents on the Tajik-Afghan border at the expense of personnel from the member states of the Collective Security Treaty Organization is not required, so far Tajikistan only needs material and technical assistance, said the head of the CSTO Joint Staff, Colonel - General Anatoly Sidorov.
"We have come to the conclusion that at the moment there is no need to increase the number of personnel, for example, due to the arrival (of contingents) from other CSTO member states," Sidorov told reporters on Thursday.
At the same time, he stated that in the republic "there are certain difficulties associated with material and technical assistance, which, apparently, will need to be provided in one or another volume."
According to the general, now there is no need to deploy humanitarian aid centers and temporary refugee centers in certain regions of Tajikistan, but such a need may arise.
"There are no refugees at the moment. But this may happen after a certain amount of time, because we can't say with absolute certainty how the situation will develop further," Sidorov said.
In the republic, he noted, they should be ready to ensure that, if necessary, centers and temporary stay points can be quickly deployed.
"And for this, it is necessary that they are fully financially provided, an administration should be appointed. The personnel of these structures should be trained. If it is suddenly necessary, they should be deployed without any problems in a matter of hours and days. In these and some other points, it is probably necessary to provide assistance to the Republic of Tajikistan. And in everything else, they feel very, very confident," the military commander said.
