Dushanbe. July 1. INTERFAX-Russia, within the framework of its obligations under the CSTO, will provide Tajikistan with the necessary assistance in case of increased terrorist threats from Afghanistan as US troops withdraw from the country, Vladimir Shamanov, head of the State Duma Defense Committee, told reporters on Thursday before a meeting of the Council of the CSTO Parliamentary Assembly (PA) in Dushanbe.
"If necessary, we will, of course, within the framework of our obligations under the CSTO, provide comprehensive assistance to Tajikistan (in case of an increase in the terrorist threat). Naturally, we will not leave him alone, " said Shamanov, who is part of the Russian delegation.
According to him, the situation in Afghanistan will be discussed at the CSTO PA Council. "I think this topic can be touched on more in the evaluation plane. As of today - we talked with our colleagues yesterday and today - the leadership of the state of Tajikistan does not express such acute concern," he said.
At the same time, from the point of view of forecasting, Shamanov is sure that this issue should be kept under control. "Our committee conducts systematic measures to assess the situation. We warned about the transfer of some of the gangs by aircraft of European states and Americans from Iraq to northern Afghanistan. That was a few years ago. That is, the situation is constantly being monitored, " the deputy stressed.
