MOSCOW, June 29/ Sputnik Radio. The Director General of the Military Staff of the European Union, Herve Blejan, is trying to convince the authorities of the Central African Republic (CAR) to refuse the help of Russian instructors in favor of Western ones.
He said this, speaking at a conference in Washington. The military added that last week he visited the African country and met with its president Faustin-Arcange Touadera.
According to him, they discussed the "widespread" presence of Russians working in a private military company in the country.
In exchange for refusing to cooperate with the Russians, Blezhan offered the president of the CAR the help of the UN, the EU, the United States, with which, according to the Director General of the EU Military Headquarters, it is more convenient to deal.
In the past, US representatives at the UN accused "Russian instructors" in the CAR of violations of international humanitarian law. Russia rejected these statements, stressing that Western countries are trying to discredit its military specialists working in the African country at the invitation of its authorities.
Earlier, Sputnik radio reported that the Foreign Ministry told about the purpose of the Russian military's presence in the CAR.
