The servicemen of the 32nd battalion of the Georgian Defense Forces have completed their mission in Afghanistan, the last military unit has returned home, the press service of the Georgian Defense Ministry reported.
"The 32nd battalion was under the command of the United States in the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan as part of a Resolute Support Mission under the auspices of NATO for six months, and its main task was to protect the base," the report says.
Georgian servicemen joined the NATO-led International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) in the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan in August 2004. Georgia was the largest donor among non-ALLIANCE countries in terms of the number of military personnel per mission per capita.
Since 2004, more than 20,000 Georgian servicemen have participated in international missions in Afghanistan within the framework of 107 rotations at various levels.
The losses of the Georgian side in the mission amounted to 32 people.
