SOCHI, June 24-RIA Novosti. Russian President Vladimir Putin said that it is necessary to strengthen the mechanisms that ensure a ban on the development and proliferation of biological weapons.
The text of the President's telegram on the occasion of the opening of the III International Scientific and Practical Conference " Global threats to Biological security. Problems and solutions " was read by the head of Rospotrebnadzor Anna Popova.
"Effective counteraction to threats of a biological nature requires close interaction of relevant government departments, scientific and medical communities. Along with measures for the prevention and treatment of dangerous infectious diseases, it is of particular importance to strengthen national and international mechanisms and regimes that ensure a ban on the development, production, use and proliferation of biological and toxin weapons," Putin said.
"In modern conditions, ensuring biological safety is a very urgent task, the solution of which is impossible without the joint efforts of the entire international community. This was fully confirmed by the coronavirus pandemic, which has not only claimed almost four million human lives, but also seriously affected the socio - economic situation in all countries of the world without exception," the telegram says.
