Washington. June 24. INTERFAX - The government of Afghanistan may be defeated in six months after the withdrawal of all US military personnel from the country, The Wall Street Journal reports, citing data from the US intelligence community.

According to them, the Afghan government led by President Ashraf Ghani may collapse in six to 12 months after all the US military is withdrawn from the country.

Meanwhile, some officials said that the government could fall within three months after the completion of the withdrawal of the US military from Afghanistan, the newspaper reports.

At the same time, the newspaper reminds, in the previous analysis it was said that the government of Afghanistan can hold out for two years after the departure of the American military.

The United States has already withdrawn more than half of its 3,500 troops and their equipment from the region. The rest of the military must leave by September 11 - the final deadline set by US President Joe Biden in April.

According to the publication, White House officials are currently calling on the military to slow down the pace of withdrawal of American troops amid reports of the Taliban's advance (the Taliban movement is banned in the Russian Federation as a terrorist organization) in the region.

On Tuesday, the UN Special Representative for Afghanistan, Deborah Lyons, told the UN Security Council that the Taliban have taken control of more than 50 districts of Afghanistan since the beginning of the offensive operation in May and are probably preparing operations to capture the capitals of a number of provinces.

According to the EFE news agency, she informed the UN Security Council that"as a result of the intensive offensive operation that has been taking place since the beginning of May, more than 50 districts in Afghanistan have fallen under the control of the Taliban."

She explained that in many cases we are talking about areas located in the immediate vicinity of the administrative centers of the provinces. "This suggests that the Taliban are taking positions in order to then try to capture these administrative centers when the withdrawal of foreign troops is completed," she suggested.

Lyons called on the international community to influence the Taliban to seek solutions to problems in negotiations with the Afghan authorities, and not on the battlefield.
