Moscow. June 23. INTERFAX-Russia attaches great importance to strengthening ties with Cyprus and sees this country as a historical ally and partner, Russian Deputy Defense Minister Alexander Fomin said.
"Despite and despite the complexity of relations that have developed through no fault of our own in recent years between the Western states and Russia, we see in Nicosia a reliable partner interested in developing mutually beneficial cooperation," Fomin said on Wednesday at talks with the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Cyprus, Andreas Luka.
He expressed confidence that the trusting relations between the two peoples and states will allow us to jointly confront most of the threats and solve regional problems.
"We attach great importance to the further development and strengthening of bilateral relations between our defense departments. And, of course, a special place among our friends is Cyprus, Greece. This is due to the common cultural traditions, the spiritual closeness of our peoples, " Fomin said.
According to Luk, his country agrees with the Russian approaches to the fight against terrorism, assessments of common threats.
